Aldenham village is located in Hertfordshire, just fifteen miles away from Central London. Snuggled comfortably between Watford and Radlett and surrounded by a multitude of highly-renowned educational establishments, Aldenham is home to a total of eight of listed buildings from the 19th century. The main attractions here are the St. John the Baptist church, dating all the way back to the thirteenth century, the Aldenham Country Park and the Aldenham Golf and Country Club.
History
The 1086 Domesday book lists Aldenham one of Hertsmere's fourteen conservation areas. The rural aesthetic, combined with the seven hundred and fifty years old church, has turned the village into a premier filming location, especially considering its proximity to the nearby Elstree Studios. The village was used as a stage for TV shows, films and music videos.
Architecture
The area features both Victorian and Gregorian-styled buildings, along with your standard house and barn conversions. The Index of Multiple Depravation 2000 lists Aldenham East as the least deprived ward in the entirety of England, marking the village as one of the most attractive locales for vacation homes, rural villas and clam retreats. Of course, the popularity of Aldenham comes at a price – real estate is rather expensive here.
Food
The picturesque village is also home to many traditional pubs and restaurants, with places like the Round Bush offering a wide range of reasonably-priced choice British meals along with suitable play areas for children and pets.
Green spaces
The wide-open areas and parkland in Aldenham make for a popular tourist attraction. Long walks across the picturesque woods and meadows, a lake for fishing and the 100 Aker Wood are a favourite past-time for locals and visitors alike. Then, there is also the famous Aldenham Adventure Playground complete with indoor play areas, sandboxes, water pumps, zip wires and slides.
Clubs and sports activities
The Aldenham Golf and Country Club is the most famous in the area, attracting golfing enthusiasts from far and wide. The traditional warm and welcoming atmosphere of the rural village is further complimented by the converted dairy cattle barn, serving as a clubhouse. For the more adventurous types, there’s also the Aldenham Sailing club, which makes excellent use of the nearby 60-acre lake.
Schools
The Aldenham area is known for its highly prestigious and well-regarded fee-paying schools in the entire country. The first-choice coeducation option is, of course, the Aldenham School, offering education to secondary school age students. Then, you’ve also got the Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ and the Haberdashers’ Aske’s Girls’ Schools, both of which consistently land near the top of the charts.
Transportation
Aldenham is in close proximity to three major roads – the M25, M1 and A1. For those who prefer to travel by train, there’s also the Radlett station, offering quick access to London’s St. Pancras station in under thirty minutes. Alternatively, you also have access to the nearby Elstree & Borehamwood and Watford stations.
