History


Borehamwood has a rich history, going all the way back to 1188. Initially, the town was considered a part of the Elstree parish until it was finally separated in 1909. Today, the area is governed by the Elstree and Borehamwood Town Council.

Architecture


Borehamwood owes much of its present-day fame to the Elstree movie studios, which despite their namesake are not located in Elstree, but here. The studios, along with Borehamwood itself, played a significant part in the UK film and television industry. Today, Borehamwood is one of the central filming locations for BBC's popular TV show Eastenders and a simple stroll across the streets is all but guaranteed to result in a meeting with everyone's favourite cast members.

For primary schools, Borehamwood offers you a choice between the Cowley Hill Primary School, the Parkside School and the Woodlands Primary School. Alternatively, if you prefer separate education, there are also the independent Haberdashers' Aske's Girls’ and Boys’ schools. As far as secondary schools go, you’ve got the Hertswood Academy, the Elstree University Technical College and the Yavneh College.

Transportation

If you prefer to travel by car, the A1 road and the M25 motorway are both situated very close to Borehamwood. The town is also included in a large number of bus services, further facilitating quick and easy access. Finally, for trains, you’ve got the Elstree & Borehamwood railway station, connected to the Thameslink route.
